### Clean the SIM Card

If the 4G router cannot detect the SIM card or gets the error message "SIM card unavailable," firstly verify if the SIM card is inserted correctly. Secondly, please check if the SIM card is clean, especially on the golden contacts. If there is dust/dirt/oil on the SIM card, you can follow the tips to [clean the SIM card](https://www.outdoorrouter.com/outdoor-4g-router-with-sim-card-slot/).
{% endhint %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
Please always **turn off the power** while inserting or removing the SIM card.
{% endhint %}

###

### Step by Step

1. Use the SIM pin to push the pinhole gently until the SIM card holder pops out.
2. Put the primary SIM card in the first slot. Make sure notch in the inside direction and pins face down. There is only one way to settle the Nano SIM card into the SIM cardholder.
3. Carefully reposition the SIM card holder in the slot and push it back gently.

{% hint style="info" %}
i. Please use an unlocked and activated SIM card.

ii. A few parts of the SIM card holder (near the handle) will stay outside. It's a normal situation. You can ignore it. ‌

iii. Please insert a SIM card in the SIM#1 slot on the SIM card holder unless you choose to use secondary SIM#2 on the mobile interface.

iiii. The 4G router can work well with a single SIM card. You can also insert an extra SIM card as a backup connection. To activate the backup connection, please enable the auto-switch option on the mobile interface.
{% endhint %}
